Responses of kenaf seedling to the salt stress were studied using water planting of cytoplasmic male sterility(CMS) line P3A, restorer line 992, and their F1 hybrids. The results showed that salt stress significantly inhibited the growth of kenaf seedlings. Salt stress caused changes in dry matter partitioning and increased the ratio of root to shoot. Responses to salt were different among different genotypes. The F1 hybrid showed positive midparent-/transgressive-heterosis. The heterosis of F1 increases under higher concentration of salt within certain range.
