The family intergenerational division of labor pattern formed in rural China during the transition period is of great significance for the promotion of women’s employment and advancement of women’s status. The intergenerational division of labor frees young and middle-aged women from the burden of housework， eases the tension between women’s professional and family roles， and lays an important foundation for women’s continuous participation in the market. The model of intergenerational division of labor, which is based on the responsibility ethic of the parent to the offspring and the life logic of family-oriented life， is an important way for peasant families to cope with the pressure of modernity in the transition period. The analysis of this paper shows that the intergenerational division of labor has reshaped the relationship between women and the family， and the advancement of women’s status is no longer the result of the power struggle and power game within the family， but the product of the functional integration of the family， thus transcending the horizon of the family power struggle. Therefore， the research on the status of women should promote the positive interaction between women’s rights and family development，based on the local social foundation and institutional environment of China so as to realize the goal of improving women’s status and living a better life.
