Abstract:Based on the data from China Family Panel Studies(CFPS),this paper conducts an empirical study on the effect of children’ intergenerational support on the rural elderly with the probit regression model. The result showed that:1) The children’s financial support and daily care can significantly improve the life satisfaction of the rural elderly; 2) When the two types of chlildren’s support are included in the model at the same time, daily care will reduce the positive effect of financial support on the life satisfaction of the seniors among the rural area to a certain extent although the regression results are not statistically significant; 3) Through the group regression and the test of introducing interaction terms,it is found that the life satisfaction of younger male elderly groups is more sensitive to the financial support provided by their children, and there is no significant gender and age heterogeneity in the impact of daily care provided by children on rural senior’s life satisfaction. Therefore,in order to actively respond to the aging of the population and improve the life satisfaction of the rural elderly,it’s necessary to strengthen the legislation and system construction of the family support system, allocate the resources of children’s inter-generational support reasonably, and promote the elderly to form good living habits and social relations.
