Abstract:We used panel data of China Health and Nutrition Survey to examine the impacts of income and agricultural production categories on rural residents’ nutrition intake in terms of their dietary diversity, calorie intake, shares of calorie from protein and fat.Combined with field research data in 2019,this paper provided an in-depth analysis of the nutritional status of rural residents in China. The results showed that total income is positively related to dietary diversity, calorie, and shares of calorie from protein and fat.Worse nutrition has been found in the agricultural income dominant families compared to those non-agricultural income dominant. The proportion of crop income is negatively related to dietary diversity, share of calorie from fat,and positively related to share of calorie from protein.Caloric intake is positively related to Fishery income.Gardening income is negatively related to caloric intake while positively related to share of calorie from protein. Therefore,in addition to various nutrition knowledge and the guidance of consumption policies,it is also significant to increase rural residents’ overall income and expand their non-agricultural employment in an effort to improve their nutrition and health.
