Abstract:Based on the Collective Model and investigation data from Wuhan in Hubei Province and Langxi in Anhui Province, this paper analyzes the influence of non-agricultural income on the household agricultural labor supply by using the Threshold Autoregressive Model, excluding the endogenous relationship between family income and labor supply. The results reveal that:(1) The non-agricultural income in the range 25,000-60,000 (RMB) obviously has a negative effect on the household agricultural labor supply; (2) The non-agricultural income in other ranges doesn’t affect agricultural labor supply distinctly for its proportion in the whole family income and off-farm working; (3) Other types of income accounting for only a small proportion of the whole have no prominent effect. These findings suggest that it is important to advocate the appropriate management in family farm and promote the training of skilled farmers, both beneficial to the specialization of family farm and the agricultural labor supply.
