Abstract:The large-scale land expropriation by the State lies a foundation for the rapid economic and social development in China, yet results in social problems like farmers’ losing land and inevitable conflicts.A comparative study of the industrialization of China’s Pearl River Delta region, southern Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province,it is revealed that different land development patterns profoundly influence the local urbanization. In the Pearl River Delta region, farmers’ behavior of selling land hinders the speed of urban construction,in sharp contrast with the rapid urban construction promoted by national land acquisition in southern Jiangsu Province. From the perspective of urbanization,China’s current land expropriation system is reasonable.
