Abstract:As a key step in the election of the “two committees” in rural communities, the nomination of candidates has attracted much attention.Based on policy texts, this paper reveals the logic of candidacy admission under the conditions set by grassroots party organization, and tests that with the qualities of formal candidates by using qualitative comparison analysis (QCA).The results show that:(1) The mass foundation is the necessary prerequsite for the potential candidate to be admitted, and a marriage between mass foundation and political achievement increases the possibility of winning; (2) The resource endowments such as economic power or clan power cannot solely make it work; (3) Driven by the logic of political stability,sub-district organization often adopts diverse strategies to reduce the uncertainness of community elections. Therefore, the common belief that the limited involvement of grass-roots party organizations in the rural community election process causes damage to democracy at the grassroots level is not true; conversely, the rural community election runs better than the villege election.
