Abstract:This study starts from an X village in southeastern Yunnan province to investigate the customs of “no living with the husband’s family” among Zhuang nationality.This study sets as a starting point the meaningful world of farmers’ life,which is then regarded as a social foundation in the village to be analyzed.All these are aimed to analyze the convergence mechanism from “no living” to “life-long living” in the Zhuang nationality’s customs of “no living with the husband’s family”.Finally a conclusion is reached that Zhuang nationality’s customs of “no living with the husband’s family” are highly correlated to the social foundation consisting of early marriage,procreation,couples’ fitting together gradually,the ordeal of personality and capacities,and public opinions.The customs are a screening marriage mechanism in Zhuang society,and demonstrate its reasonableness in constraining individual marriage behaviors,establishing stable families and maintaining local marriage orders.
