Based on the significance of pushing forward characteristic development of humanities and social sciences in agricultural colleges and universities,this paper points out that developing humanities and social sciences is an important choice for colleges and universities to cultivate high-quality talents,searching for characteristics is the inevitable choice for agricultural colleges and universities to achieve prosperity for humanities and social sciences and promoting interdisciplinary development is the effective way to implement the characteristic development of humanities and social sciences in agricultural colleges and universities.This paper also analyzes the practices of developing characteristics of humanities and social sciences in Huazhong Agricultural University and summarizes four characteristics.The first characteristics is to take advantage of agricultural dominance and constantly integrate and improve the discipline of humanities and social sciences.The second one is to establish a coupling mechanism of specialists and scholars in humanities and social sciences and natural sciences so that the interdisciplinary atmosphere will be constructed.The third one is to set up interdisciplinary fund and establish the characteristic development-oriented mechanism of humanities and social sciences.The last one is to target the economic and social requirements and positively do interdisciplinary research.This paper finally puts forward several suggestions on how to push forward the characteristic development of humanities and social sciences.These suggestions include adhering to agricutural practice and finding out the answers to the problems of modern agriculture and “farmer,countryside and agriculture”,further promoting the deep cooperation among disciplines to reach the higher goals for interdisciplines and constantly innovating characteristic development so as to strenghten the nucleus competition of humanities and social sciences in Huazhong Agricultural University.
